How do Hindu American leaders balance integrity and professionalism while facing an immensely challenging political climate?

HAF Executive Director Suhag Shukla and NY State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar show us exactly how they do it during this captivating conversation on the challenges they have confronted and how they have persevered.

Hindu Americans are an integral part of this country’s fabric, and there is no surer way of demonstrating this than becoming a democratically elected official. Here in New York, Jenifer Rajkumar was the first Hindu American to be elected to our State Assembly.

And while we celebrated, we are also keenly aware that her initial path to victory and ability to remain in her seat have not been easy. Like fellow Hindu Americans in or seeking elected office, Jenifer has faced unjustified anti-Indian and anti-Hindu attacks from the far right and left. Both sides have stooped low in their attacks against Hindu American leaders. Yet, we have taken the high road.

Jenifer has not only persevered, but she did it with integrity, professionalism, and compassion. Join us for a forthright discussion with Jenifer about the challenges faced by Hindu Americans in the public sphere and how our Hindu traditions themselves show us the way to rise above.

Assemblywoman Rajkumar presented a New York State Proclamation to Dr. Vishnu Bisram, Sandy Rao (Senior Officer, United States Marshals Service), and Geetika Tandon (Director of Philanthropy, HAF) in recognition of their efforts to bring the event—and the community—together in Queens.
