Our priorities for 2025

Though it may feel like we have our hands in many things (and we do), our work remains centered within our two focus areas: Education and Advocacy. Our overarching priorities for this year within these spheres will have an incredible impact on American schoolchildren—both Hindu and non-Hindu—and protect our community from discriminatory policies and hate.

I hope they will inspire you to continue to believe in and support our vital work this year.

Education

For the classroom: Improving Understanding

In addition to ramping up our Hinduism 101 teacher trainings across the country, we are working with state departments of education and school districts to initiate a comprehensive assessment of materials used in the classroom to teach about Hinduism and Ancient India. We will provide edits and updates in consultation with reputable scholars, as needed. We’ve already impacted over two million American students, and have the potential to positively impact how Hindus are presented to millions more in 2025.

For the community: Know Your Roots

HAF is taking up the mammoth task of connecting Hindus with their heritage in an easily understandable and context-sensitive manner. In 2025, you’ll see a number of engaging how-to guides, videos, and blogs with the insights of our ancestors that are relevant to Hindu Americans today. We’re calling it Know Your Roots!

The history of Hindu civilizations has been eroded, manipulated, and/or erased over centuries, making it difficult to pass on our civilizations and cultures to the newer generations of Hindu Americans. They have been absorbing Hindu history from all types of sources, unaware of their inherent biases, predispositions, or broader goals. Know Your Roots will change how Hindus understand our history.

Advocacy

Combating Discriminatory Caste Policies

Through our newly-established Legal Justice Center, HAF is wielding its legal and policy expertise to push back against harmful caste policies that infringe on the constitutionally protected rights of Hindus. “Social justice warriors” have sought to implement caste as a separate, stand-alone protected class in policies across the country. This is unconstitutional as it singles out and stigmatizes people of Indian origin. As an attorney-led organization, only HAF can lead the charge in this fight for our rights, all the way to the courts.

Protecting Hindus and Mandirs from Hate

Hate crimes against Hindus and mandirs have increased significantly. Often, law enforcements’ responsiveness has been insufficient. In 2025, HAF will host four law enforcement training conferences nationwide, reaching over 250 officials, so our community is better understood and protected. These conferences are imperative to dismantling the false perception that anti-Hindu hate is merely “political” or “intra-communal”.
