Washington, DC (May 21, 2018) — After a week long call-in campaign, Hindu American efforts have paid off: 130 members of Congress signed a ‘dear colleague’ letter urging the Trump Administration to keep in place rules that allow spouses of H-1B visa holders to work and contribute to the economy in the United States.

The bipartisan letter, initiated by Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Mia Love (R-UT), began with 20 signatories and rapidly gained support from across the country and across the aisle.

By the time the letter was published last week, addressed to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, 130 representatives had lent their support.

“HAF thanks all our supporters who contacted their Representative,” HAF Director of Government Relations Jay Kansara commented. “Your efforts played a persuasive role in moving our elected officials to act, sending a clear message to Secretary Nielsen that the Hindu American community will not stay silent.”
