Through the generous support of the Guru Krupa Foundation, the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) has successfully begun a national transformation of how Ancient India and Dharma traditions are taught in American classrooms. By moving beyond problematic academic textbooks to create dynamic, classroom-ready resources, HAF has provided educators with the tools to replace outdated narratives with accurate, modern research. This initiative has already reached over 600 teachers across the country and is projected to benefit approximately 1.9 million students throughout their educational careers, ensuring a more inclusive and nuanced understanding of these traditions for the next generation.
“The impact of this grant extends well beyond the classroom and into the heart of civic life. With the Guru Krupa Foundation’s support, we were able to develop a comprehensive suite of educational materials, including 13 specialized primers and multiple lesson plans, all rigorously vetted by a board of respected university scholars,” explained Dr. Vijay Satnarine, HAF Senior Director of Education Strategy. “These resources have gained significant institutional trust, highlighted by their inclusion as suggested materials by two State Departments of Education.”
Dr. Satnarine further noted that the funding supported vital cultural competency training for law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, fostering greater mutual respect and protection for Hindu Americans within their local communities.
This partnership has also sparked a massive digital expansion, making high-quality educational content accessible to the global public. With over 100,000 views on new educational videos and the launch of a dedicated digital resource hub, the project has met a surging demand for reliable information on pluralism and Dharma traditions. The Guru Krupa Foundation’s anchor investment not only fueled these direct achievements but also allowed HAF to scale the project’s reach, setting a new standard for how community-driven education can foster a more accurate and pluralistic society.
HAF looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Guru Krupa Foundation to positively impact K-12 education for years to come.
