In response to the attacks and violent protests at the Consulate General of India in San Francisco, and India High Commision in London, HAF Managing Director Samir Kalra commented:

“These latest attacks are an escalation of related incidents we have witnessed over the past year. There have been at least three further incidents of vandalism carried out against Hindu targets by supporters of the Khalistan separatist movement. Hindu temples in New York City, in Canada, and in Australia have all be targeted. Though support for an independent Sikh theocratic state, carved out of India, has been largely dormant in India itself over the past two and a half decades, in the diaspora the Khalistan movement is resurgent and supporters of the movement in the US, Canada and UK are stoking its embers in India.  It’s important to remember that Khalistani extremists have a long and tragic track record of violence, including being responsible for the downing of an Air India jet in 1985, killing more than 300 people. We urge authorities in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia to treat this movement for what it is: a potential violent, terrorist threat.”
