Sunnyvale, CA (February 12, 2019) — Last week, US Federal District Court Judge for the District of Northern California, Charles Breyer, ordered the unsealing of email communications between California Department of Education (CDE) officials and professors belonging to the South Asian Faculty Group regarding the portrayal of Hinduism during the History-Social Science Framework textbook adoption process in 2016.

In response to the ruling, which was part of an ongoing lawsuit by California Parents for the Equalization of Educational Materials (CAPEEM) against the CDE, HAF Managing Director Samir Kalra, Esq. commented:

“We welcome the ruling by Judge Breyer in ordering the unsealing of emails between CDE officials and various professors during the California History-Social Science Framework adoption process in 2016. This is an important step towards obtaining transparency by CAPEEM and we look forward to seeing the content and nature of these emails, and whether they demonstrate any illegal actions and/or prior bias against Hinduism by the CDE and these professors.”
