Washington, DC (February 8, 2019) — In response to the introduction of H.R. 1044 the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act, by Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Ken Buck (R-CO), and 112 bipartisan members of Congress, HAF Director of Government Relations Jay Kansara offered the following statement:

“The overwhelmingly bipartisan reintroduction of the Fairness for Skilled Immigrants Act in both chambers of Congress yesterday shows how critical the need to remove country cap quotas for skilled immigrants who have entered America legally but are trapped in a never ending green card backlog. HAF has actively supported this common sense legislation last year but were disappointed it wasn’t considered for vote despite being the most supported bill on immigration. In 2019 we plan on being even more active to ensure its passage and to guarantee relief for hundreds of thousands of H-1B visa holders who live with increasing uncertainty of their status but contribute billions to our national economy. There is no reason why these workers, who happen to be from India deserve to be treated any differently than any other legal immigrant in the United States.”
